Add each household policy once. When a pipe bursts, a windscreen cracks, or a vet asks for cover, open this app: insurer, policy number, 24-hour line, excess.

1. 1Copy the claims number off the schedule or renewal email.
2. 2Put the excess in writing. It is the figure people forget.
